Procrastination

There is something important to do and yet we have great difficulty coming around and doing it. Mood, time, will power, determination or whatever - we procrastinate - the proverbial albatross around our neck - the curse of humanity. Procrastination is a disease afflicting almost everyone on this planet. Why we procrastinate, god knows. Seems we seek an enormous pleasure in putting off things which ought to be done. Sometimes I feel, we enjoy the shadow boxing with ourselves putting off things which done on time would definitely save precious time, headaches and tension. Remember the proverbial stitch in time saves nine. Needless to say, somewhere down the line we do not learn the lesson of taking the bull by its horns. Maybe we're afraid – real and imaginary. We ought to learn the art of rolling up the sleeves and plunge headlong into that which necessitates our attention. Failing to learn this important art is very costly in the long run, though we all just die in the long run.

Why the inexplicable reluctance to start doing immediately is something I can't fathom. To ease the immediate pressure, maybe but our thinking (assuming one thinks rationally) minds should ring the alarm bells quite loudly as the pressure only accumulates and deaden us like taxes after some time. More often than not we are not quite interested in the work we do and so anything which can divert our attention is godsend! We spends endless hours in Facebook but would not bend our mind to finish the work on which many things depend. We have no qualms about chatting hours and hours and yet will not devote a modicum of time to finish the work in hand.

Procrastination dents our confidence, increases the stress levels, leaves behind a bad taste, makes us blame others and keeps us mediocre. All we need is a change in our attitude - maybe a sea change would do a world of good.
